In Spring the Swartland bursts into colour and wild flowers can be seen in abundance. A good place to start your route is in Yzerfontein and Darling. Along the sea one can also see whales in the spring.
Near Darling there are a number of game and nature reserves where the fauna and flora of the area can be viewed. Take a game drive and see Lions, Buffalo, Giraffe, Zebra, Blue Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, Kudu, Eland, Oryx (Gemsbok), Bontebok, Springbok, Duiker, Steenbok and Caracal.

Throughout the year a high number of species of the indigenous Fynbos vegetation can be observed in the area.
